First, as a fellow vet, the writing therapy works. Been there, done that. Stay at it. It helps. 'Nuff said. I've got both novels but waited til finishing the 2nd before reviewing. Really dig the SciFi "grunt" perspective as killer, leadership aspects/complexities, heroes don't always find a way to survive regardless and the brotherhood of fellow warriors, regardless of stupidities like race, sex, etc., can be honorable. If only reality reflected the same. Yes, I noticed a few grammatical and spelling errors but frankly, keep writing 'em and I'll keep buying them. Keep the wife, too. She helps. Good stuff from a Ranger, I'm guessing. Finally, thanks for recognizing Tim for his initial contribution. He rocks.Product details

OK book. I enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars. I will probably read more in the series. But it is not a book that I'd buy to keep on my book shelf.
This is a good follow-on book but I have to say it got a little teedious twords the end. The epilogue is a good tralor for the next book.
I love the concepts of this story and the characters are well thought out in a future that I could see happening.

Gripping story and riveting characters. I couldn't put either of the books down and stayed up two nights reading both stories. A great addition to the Human Legion universe. There is lots of action and love the detailed character (human and nonhuman) motivations to make these stories a compelling read. Waiting (im)patiently for the next book.
A tad heavy on the meetings and planning sessions in this book, but JR Handley has clearly grown as a writer. I noticed an improvement from his debut novel The Legion Awakes (Book 1 in series). The main battle sequence was intense and the speech before said battle was the kind of epicness movies are made from. This new author just joined my auto-buy list! Buy this book!
While I sometimes find it difficult to follow who is who, after reading a bit it becomes clearer. I really like the way honor is bestowed on Auxes and any soldier doing something meritorious. That's a concept that I wished had happened in the military when I served. I'm on to book 3!
Its been quite a long time since a book has affected me the way this one did. As a former participant in the unpleasantness in Southeast Asia, 50 years ago, 50 frakkin' years? My head is STILL frakked and body is getting worse. It brought back memories that I am not sure I wanted brought back. Its amazing how things can hang around in your head that long but I cant remember my zip code sometimes. I'm sorry, I cant say much more without giving away parts of this wonderful book, but believe me sir, I know about your ghosts and demons.
